Need proof? Aside from recently announcing a collaboration with Steve Madden, the Bronx-beauty has coined one of the biggest terms in fashion, "bloody shoes." The phrase, which refers to Christian Louboutins red-soled shoes, appears on the rapper's hit single, "Bodak Yellow." And while the Dominican star owns over 90 pairs herself, she is now inspiring others to invest in some as well.
According to a report released by Business of Fashion, thanks to Cardi's nod of the iconic shoes on her track, the term "bloody shoes' had a 217 percent spike on Google's search engine since the song's release. And with over 13 million followers on Instagram, one can't deny Cadi's strong influence on consumer purchases. The report also revealed that the New York-born star has created "an estimated $4.5 million media value in 2017 to date." Impressive for an Internet sensation turned overnight success.
But what does the iconic French designer think of the 25-year-old's love for his shoes? He admits he is not very familiar with the former Love & Hip-Hop star but appreciates the shout out. “She has the hair like that? She’s a rapper? This ‘Yellow’ song?” he said in an interview with The New York Times. “In a way, it comes back to some of my origins...The first shoes I ever designed were for showgirls, people on stage. Showgirls have a kind of attitude—they’re driving forces.”
Well, Louboutin might have a lot of thanking to do. According to Racked, departments stores have been getting an increase in diverse shoppers thanks to Cardi. "[There were] lots of young women, and a more diverse crowd than the rest of the store — it seemed to me, at least,” Clare O’Connor, a Forbes staff writer said when passing through the Christian Louboutin section of a store. A salesperson attributed this phenomenon to 'the Cardi B effect.”
