Christina Milian on Her Career & Swimwear Collection: "It's Been Quite an Evolution"

We caught up with Christina Milian backstage after the Nicolita Fashion Show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami and chatted about her career evolution, her fave Latin dish, and her involvement in designing the Cuban inspired 2013 Havana Nights collection with Nicolita designer Nicole Di Rocco.

How do you feel now that you’ve debuted your collection?

“What a night! We did it finally. It’s been a long time coming. Nicole made it such an awesome experience for me and we did it so quickly. We’ve been talking about (designing together) for a while and I’m glad that we finally got it to come to fruition."

What was the inspiration behind the collection?

“We just wanted to make a collection that reflects my personality but keeps the allure of Nicolita that I love so much. There were a lot of leopard prints and rhinestones. The styles are all about flow and (are) beachy but glamorous, so that you can keep that fabulous look when you’re in or out of the water, from day to night. It transcends any time actually.”

Tell me about your career metamorphosis.

“From singing to acting to songwriting to mom to fashion designer! It’s been quite an evolution. Every little thing I’ve done so far has been a dream of mine and I’ve been able to accomplish it. It’s still a dream every day. “

What’s your favorite Latin dish?

“I’m all about molde de arroz con picadillo.”

Where would you love to travel next?

“I’d love to go to Cuba (and) I love Puerto Rico!”

Lastly, what message do you have for Latinas?

“Shout out to Latinas! You’ve been great at supporting me and I appreciate you! This (collection) is for you!”
