It’s hard to believe that after all these years of world-famous catalogs and ridiculously sexy fashion shows, Victoria’s Secret still hasn’t expanded their brand to include more body diverse models to rock their itty bity lingerie.
The go-to name for the sexiest undergarments, prettiest pjs and biggest-name models has long been under fire for setting unrealistic expectations by choosing only a certain type of body (read: thin) to represent their line. But, there is a movement to change all that.
Model Ashley Graham has been outspoken about her wish to be a VS Angel and, having still not gotten a call from the company, took matters into her own hands. The beauty, and designer of her own collection of lingerie, Addition Elle, thank you very much, Instagrammed a photo of herself rocking the runway in her skivvies with a pair of Photoshopped wings added in. She tagged the pic “Got My Wings… my #AdditionElle wings!” and added her ubiquitous hashtag #thickthighssavelives
The Victoria’s Secret Angels are currently in Shanghai shooting the brand’s annual fashion show that will air later this year.
In reality, Victoria’s Secret’s refusal to hire curve models is ridiculous and archaic. And no matter how glamorous and exciting their runway shows are every year (who doesn’t love an over-the-top, million dollar fantasy bra, and seeing stars like Bruno Mars and The Weeknd amidst those insanely sexy outfits?), it’s time for a change. VS: please see Ashley Graham, and all the other gorge models who implore you to expand your minds, and your look, and try evolving a bit.
