Table Talk: Da Conch Shack

Last month, I was lucky enough to go to join the Caribbean Tourism Organization for the annual GObeach festival in Turks & Caicos. The islands are gorgeous, and it didn’t hurt that I was surrounded by super cute volleyball players that knew all the good local spots. My favorite was Da Conch Shack, an outdoor eatery with a very low key vibe.

When I arrived at this outdoor restaurant my group and I decided to sit at one of the white picnic tables laid out on the beach. My new found friends knew exactly how to begin our meal and promptly ordered a pitcher of their signature rum punch. By my second glass I was definitely on “island” time, relaxing and listening to that night’s local band. They won’t tell you the secret ingredients in the popular punch, but it’s delish! For food, we started off with the conch salad, similar to ceviche. It was very refreshing and had a nice amount of citrus flavor with the onions, peppers, and lime. We then moved on to a seafood platter of conch fritters, cracked conch, lobster, and curry chicken. The conch fritters were pretty good, although I favored the cracked conch, which is whole pieces of the lightly battered shellfish. The curry chicken had great flavor too. I’m usually not a big fan of curry, the seasoning was subtle and the chicken was very tender.

All things conch are the highlight of this spot. It may have something to do with the fact that they literally fish it from the ocean and crack it right in front of you when you order!
